One of the most important decisions someone can make in early recovery is choosing how they want to heal—and who they trust to walk with them.
At Sunstone, we believe those choices should belong to the individual, not the recovery house.
That’s why we’re proud to support multiple treatment pathways and work with diverse outpatient providers. Whether someone is following a medication-assisted treatment (MAT) plan, participating in abstinence-based therapy, or taking a different route supported by their treatment provider, we meet them where they are and help them move forward.
A Flexible, Person-First Approach
In many recovery housing settings, residents are expected to follow a single program with a single provider. Some are even required to participate in specific services or risk losing their bed.
We do not operate that way.
Sunstone works with a wide range of OhioMHAS-certified outpatient providers. We coordinate directly with each resident’s chosen team—whether that’s a MAT clinic, a faith-based counselor, or a group therapy program—so they can stay in charge of their own recovery journey.
Our role is to provide a safe, structured place to live—while making sure the wraparound support system fits them appropriately.
Treatment Should Be Tailored To The Individual
We understand that no two residents are the same. Their past experiences, mental health needs, physical health, and recovery goals all factor into what treatment looks like. That’s why we’ve created a community that supports a range of options, including:
- Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) (including Suboxone, Sublocade, Methadone, and other FDA-approved medications)
- Non-MAT support models such as abstinence-based recovery or hybrid approaches
- Therapy in various forms including individual counseling, intensive outpatient programs (IOP), and specialized trauma or dual-diagnosis services
Sunstone residents don’t need to fit into one mold. They need options that fit them and we help make that possible.
This Flexibility Is Rare. And It Matters.
Unfortunately, not every recovery house takes this approach. Some operate under “one-size-fits-all” contracts with a single provider, leaving residents with no real choice. Others tie housing to treatment compliance in ways that can create fear, stress, or even retaliation.
We reject those practices.
Instead, we work to empower each resident, not control them. And we advocate alongside them to ensure they get the care they need from the people they trust.
The Data Tells a Powerful Story
This approach isn’t just ethical, it’s effective. Our residents are building momentum, gaining income, and creating stability across a wide range of treatment paths.
We Support Recovery That’s Real
Supporting multiple treatment models means more coordination, more flexibility, and more conversations. But it also means more trust, progress, and long-term success.
At Sunstone, we’re not in the business of controlling recovery. We’re in the business of supporting it.
