OUR PHILOSOPHY
We are here for you.
The Journey. As your guide, we feel that our collective journey through life should be as free and unencumbered as possible. Therefore, it is our genuine privilege to be in a position to offer help to those who need it, when they need it.
At Sunstone we’re proud to offer a safe, structured path along the road of life. After all, who better to guide you through this journey than those who have come out safe at the other end?
WHO IS SUNSTONE?
A Partner.
It may be challenging to know the best route forward on your own.
When your resolve is being tested, it may even seem impossible. At Sunstone, we have a deep understanding of the path to recovery, and our long experience in this matter makes us a steadfast ally when you need it most. A partner on the journey to lasting peace.
"The great thing in this world is not so much where you stand as what direction you are moving."
WHY DOES SUNSTONE DO IT?
Our Purpose.
The team at Sunstone works tirelessly toward creating change and decreasing stigma around substance use disorder (SUD).
Additionally, the stigma surrounding medication assisted treatment (MAT), a scientific evidence-based treatment model, comes with its own set of challenges. Sunstone aims to eliminate the barrier to housing normally experienced by those individuals prescribed MAT medication (e.g. Suboxone, Methadone and Vivitrol). In short, we are here to transform the recovery housing experience, developing a well-balanced model that delivers improved outcomes for our residents and our community.
Diversity & Inclusion.
Sunstone firmly believes everyone deserves access to safe recovery housing.
It is through our differences and shared experiences that we learn how to live in harmony. Sunstone’s foundational home is in Springfield Township, Ohio. In 2022, the demographics are 50.3% Caucasian, 43.8% Black, 1.5% Hispanic, 1.3% Asian and 2.9% Two or more races.
Part of our mission is to advocate for equality in recovery housing. To provide a space where all people feel accepted, supported and appreciated. Every Sunstone resident deserves the opportunity to find strength in their recovery and be provided a safe and supportive home environment. Regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual preference, or financial status, we all deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.
No matter where we come from or where we are going, we’re in this together.
HOW CAN SUNSTONE HELP?
Our Approach.
With only 50 beds and one property, our staff has extensive knowledge of our residents’ backgrounds and a strong connection with their individual treatment providers.
Sunstone understands the time it takes to be actively engaged in an outpatient MAT treatment program. We want our residents to be actively engaged in their treatment. Therefore, we have developed residential policies and procedures that accommodate our residents’ treatment schedules.
We use objective assessment tools at Sunstone. We rely on our treatment partners to provide pertinent documentation: treatment plans, toxicology results, case management notes, etc… Constructive communication and dialogue regarding the residential and treatment experience leads to productive collaboration and improved outcomes for the resident.
While we offer onsite peer engagement groups, Sunstone also provides residents the freedom to seek out more social support if they desire. We believe that personal preference is important when deciding to attend 12-step groups, faith-based meetings, cognitive-based sessions or nothing at all. Our goal is to support our residents in prioritizing their personal health and wellness: mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically.
WHO DOES SUNSTONE HELP?
Our Residents.
Sunstone residents are directly referred by their comprehensive outpatient medication-assisted treatment providers.
Sunstone has developed strong relationships with a small number of preferred providers. Our network of treatment professionals is like-minded and firmly believes in evidence-based science, harm reduction and non-stigmatizing language. Our treatment partners agree to provide shared information, documentation and consistent communication regarding our residents’ treatment progress, challenges and journey.
